Day 8 - January 12

Today is our off day as we transition from our adventure to a race with cutoff times. The Brazil 135 course is extremely difficult - steep mountains, high humidity, heat and lots of miles. This will be Amy’s 6th, my 8th and John’s 1st. Amy and I are super excited to be a part of John’s 1st Brazil experience as we know how hard it will be but also life changing.

We met at 11am to go over race plan with team. Usually one athlete has 2 crew members helping them. In our case, Alan and Caique are crewing 3 athletes! But these 2 are super heroes and I have confidence in our team to ultimately succeed.

Foxy is in our hotel with us enjoying all the people who continually give him scraps of food. His appetite is insatiable as he starts to put meat on his bony body. I am trying to figure out if it is at all possible to get him back to the United States. With the running it is challenging to work on this and once we are finished the run, we are supposed to fly home the next day.

We have one last team dinner tonight at 5pm so that we can get to bed as early as possible. The race begins tomorrow in a staggered start from 5-7am. From then on we will try to post from the road.

Thank you for your support -

Cheers,

David.
