Day 13 - January 17

Yesterday was a tough blow for all of us losing our companion Foxy all the while trying to rationalize the logical positive outcome that was orchestrated based on the fact set that we had. All of us moved through the day in a haze trying to reconcile our feelings and upon arriving at the biggest mountain pass already late from our Foxy morning, we realized it would be dangerous to attempt a crossing of “The Broken Leg” mountain at the late hour with storms enshrouding the peeks. We decided to call it in the town of Luminosa and restart at 4am.

I woke up with a wicked sore throat and my body ached, not a good start to the queen stage of our adventure. Even so, we made good time up the climb and then descended into Campo do Jordoa where we met the boys at a pharmacy so I could rule out covid by taking a test. The nurse asked if I wanted to do the blood test or the swab - had no idea there was a blood test for covid! Swab was fine and few minutes later - negative.

We knocked out the 52k we needed to get done today which sets us up for tomorrow’s final run into the Aparecida Basillica. We are all looking forward to meeting Alans wife, Alinny, who will be arriving tomorrow to meet us and celebrate our finish. She is expecting their first daughter in April which they have name Amy!

All for today - thank you for your support.

Cheers,

David.
